Storm Moves Union County Deer Hunt to Wednesday

Breaking: Inclement weather has moved the scheduled Union County deer hunt from Monday to Wednesday.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Deer hunting has been moved from Monday, Jan. 23 to Wednesday, Jan. 25 due to the impending storm.

The annual Union County Deer Management Program usually occurs on Mondays through Feb. 6. In the event of inclement weather on a Monday, the hunting activity will be moved to Wednesday of that week. Inclement weather on Wednesday would push the program to Friday.

The hunt takes place at six County parks and one municipal park including:

  • Watchung Reservation (Berkeley Heights, Mountainside Scotch Plains, Springfield, Summit),
  • Passaic River Park (Summit portion),
  • Ash Brook Reservation (Clark, Scotch Plains),
  • Lenape Park and Nomahegan Park (Cranford, Kenliworth, Springfield, Union, Westfield),
  • Oak Ridge Park (Clark),
  • and the Hawk Rise Sanctuary (Linden).

Lenape and Nomahegan Parks will be closed on days when hunting is underway. However, no other parks will be closed during the conduct of this program.

All costs for the conduct of this deer management program will be borne by the County of Union and the individual hunters. Some of the venison that will derive from this program will be used to feed the needy and the homeless through the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
