Sunday Shooting Death Under Investigation: Union Co. Prosecutor

PLAINFIELD, NJ - A 32-year-old Plainfield man was shot to death on Liberty Street Sunday night, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Jennifer Davenport. The victim has been identified as Jaquan Heyward of Plainfield, Davenport said.

According to authorities, Plainfield Police Division patrol units responded to a report of a shooting on the 200 block of Liberty Street at approximately 8:20 p.m. Sunday and found Heyward there, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Heyward was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead a little less than an hour later, police said.

Heyward’s death remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, Davenport said.
