Swimming In Westfield Pond May Have Caused Skin Infection On Child

Swimming is prohibited in Lenape Park and signage will be posted to remind residents.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A child who swam in a pond in Westfield developed a skin infection and was the topic of conversation at the Westfield Board of Health meeting.

The child developed a skin infection due to Vibrio vulnificus possibly related to swimming in a pond in Lenape Park, the Westfield Board of Health said.

Swimming is prohibited in that park and the Health Department requested that the county post signage to inform residents at the Sept. 12 meeting.
