Teen's Death In Union County Shooting Marks 11th Homicide In City

A teenager was among two shot in Plainfield on Monday, marking the 11th homicide in the city: prosecutor.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — Two people were shot in Plainfield on Monday, including a teenager who later died from his injuries, authorities announced.

The teen's death marks the 11th homicide in the city for 2016.

Two individuals were struck by gunfire on the 600 block of East 3rd Street in Plainfield on Monday, Dec. 26 at approximately 9:40 p.m., according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.

Both were rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. One of the individuals survived and remains hospitalized and the other, 18 year old Manuel Berrios of Plainfield, was pronounced dead Tuesday morning as a result of the injuries sustained in the shooting, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.

This remains an active investigation involving members of the Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force, The Plainfield Police Division, the Union County Police Department and the Union County Sheriff's Office.
