UPDATE: Trader Joe's Is Coming Down

A portion of the 100 block of Elm Street is closed to traffic as the Trader Joe's building is torn down

Westfield, NJ -- Brick by brick the Trader Joe’s in Westfield is being to turn into a pile of rubble.

The beloved grocery store was slated to begin being torn down around 8 a.m. today but snow fall has pushed back operations.

At 5 p.m. today, the building is the process of being completely demolished. About half of it is already gone.

The building has been shut down since Jan. 23 after its roof collapsed from the excessive snow brought on by Blizzard Jonas.

The roof collapsed in the middle, causing three exterior walls to buckle into the middle of the building. No one was injured.

A portion of the 100 block of Elm Street in front of the building is closed to vehicular traffic as the Trader Joe’s building is torn down, Westfield Police Chief David C. Wayman announced.

Motorists should expect traffic delays in the downtown area and should plan an alternate route.

Trader Joe’s said in statement they will reopen at the location.
