Victim ID'd In Fatal Garden State Parkway Toll Booth Crash

A woman crashed into 3 vehicles and a concrete barrier at a toll plaza on the Garden State Parkway Tuesday.

HILLSIDE, NJ — An 83-year-old New Jersey woman was identified as the fatal victim in a three-car toll booth crash on the Garden State Parkway this week as more details emerged Wednesday.

Patricia Lavelle, 83, of Neptune was identified as woman killed Tuesday in the crash at the Union Toll Plaza on the Garden State Parkway, State Police said.

Lavelle was driving a Honda northbound on the parkway at mile marker 142.5 when she crashed into three vehicles and a concrete barrier at the toll plaza at 2:30 p.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

The vehicle then burst into flames where Lavelle sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. One other driver also sustained minor non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Overlook Medical Center, Goez said.

As a result of the crash, a four-mile delay was reported on the northbound side for several hours.

The cause and circumstances of the accident is still under investigation.
