VIDEO: Police Deliver Baby on Parkway In Union County

Trooper II Alex Muro and Trooper Arnaldo Mateo delivered a baby girl in Hillside

Hillside, NJ -- A baby girl was delivered on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway in the Union County area thanks to two New Jersey State troopers.

On Monday, Jan. 4 at 4:14 a.m., a couple was driving to the hospital when the expecting mother realized they were not going to make it. They pulled over and he husband dialed 9-1-1.

Trooper II Alex Muro and Trooper Arnaldo Mateo arrived at milepost 143.2 in Hillside where they found the mom-to-be already in labor in the back seat of the car.

Both troopers helped the expecting mother give birth. You can hear the troopers on the video assiting the mom-to-be saying “Here we go. One. Two. Three. Push!”

A few minutes later, at 4:26 a.m., Mateo was cradling a newborn baby girl.

“It’s a girl!” a trooper is heard saying on the video.

Both troopers assisted with cutting the umbilical cord before handing her over to mom.

Mom and baby were transported by ambulance to the hospital where they were last reported as doing well.
