Westfield Baseball Tops North Hunterdon, 4-2

Wins Section 2, Group 4 championship behind DiMartino's complete game gem.

Brad DiMartino threw a complete game, four-hitter making Westfield's 3-run first inning hold up as the Blue Devils won their 7th consecutive game en route to the Section 2, Group 4 state title on Friday, May 30th in North Hunterdon.

Westfield opened the game swiftly, loading the bases in the first on walks to Anthony Perconte and Matt Storcks and a base hit by Michael Ionta. Cleanup hitter Liam Devin then laced a two-run single and a force out by Tyler Bowman scored another, staking DiMartino to a 3-0 lead. North Hunterdon responded in their own half of the first, parlaying a walk and two singles around a Westfield error to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Blue Devils then threatened in the second, fourth and sixth innings with Quinn Dursee (3 hits), Perconte (2 hits, 2 walks) and Matt Storcks (hit, 3 walks) littering the base paths. They were stymied until the 6th, however, when Ionta roped a single to drive in Dursee to provide the final margin of victory. DiMartino then finished the game emphatically, striking out the last North Hunterdon hitter to set off a raucous Westfield celebration.

The Blue Devils (18-11) now move on to face Randolph, the Section 1, Group 4 Champs, in the Group 4 championship game on Tuesday, June 4th (location TBD).
