Westfield Blue Devils Baseball Tops Scotch Plains, 6-4

A date with defending Group 3 State Champion Cranford awaits on Saturday, May 11th with the Union County title at stake.

Kevin Galasso threw 6 2/3rds, 5-hit innings and every Westfield starter reached base safely to lead the Blue Devils to their second straight Union County championship game with a 6-4 win over Scotch Plains at Williams Field in Elizabeth on Sunday, May 5th.

Westfield opened the scoring in the 2nd when Chris Arena walked, Jake Greenberg (3 hits) singled, Tyler Bowman beat out a bunt and Eric Demers hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

The Blue Devils went up 2-0 in the 4th when Demers hit a run scoring double and got some breathing room in the 5th on Liam Devin's long 2-run triple to make it 4-0.

Westfield stretched it's advantage to 6-0 on RBI singles by Anthony Perconte and Matt Storcks (2 hits) in the top of the 6th and hung on for the victory after the Raiders tallied 4 times in the 7th behind RBI hits from Zach Lipschitz and James D'Angelo.

Quinn Dursee came on in relief of Galasso and recorded the last out for Westfield, who have won 5 straight. A date with defending Group 3 State Champion Cranford awaits on Saturday, May 11th with the Union County title at stake.
