Barbara Tomlinson to talk about American Jewish artist, Florine Stettheimer's contribution to the NY cultural scene in the 1920's, 30's

With her sisters, Carrie and Ettie, she hosted a salon in Manhattan for modernists including Marcel Duchamp and Georgia O'Keeffe. Four of Stettheimer's paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and her work was shown in NYC at the Jewish Museum at an exhibition entitled Florine Stettheimer: Painting Poetry in September 2017.

Our speaker is Barbara Tomlinson. She served as history department chair at a small, independent secondary school, and course coordinator for cultural history of General Education program at Kean University. During retirement, she teaches cultural history in various continuing education programs and leads tours in United States and European cities to explore the historical and cultural context. She is grandmother of two teenagers. She received a B.A., cum laude, from Barnard College, a M.A.T. from Harvard University and a Ph. D., in American and Women’s History, from Rutgers.
