Westfield Council Meets Tuesday To Discuss Zoning Law Changes
The Westfield Council will meet virtually on Tuesday to discuss development changes and other matters.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Town Council will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, virtually. You can connect by using this Zoom link.

Among the ordinances up for a vote is a rule to require development and subdivision applicants to complete a "green Development checklist." The ordinance is known as: An Ordinance to Amend the Land Use Ordinance of the Town Of Westfield Revising the Submission Requirements for Preliminary and Final Site Plan and Preliminary and Final Subdivision Applications."

The council will also vote on another ordinance to amend the Land Use Ordinance, this one to define artisan manufacturing, and to establish such manufacturing as a permitted principal use in certain zone districts.
Also as revealed at the last meeting, people doing work on their historic properties may be able to apply for a five-year tax abatement. The ordinance for the “five year tax exemption and abatement law" will be up for a vote.

The law states, "The Governing Body desires to amend the Tax Exemption Ordinance to provide for real estate tax incentives for dwellings, multiple dwellings, mixed use structures and industrial and commercial structures (i) within the boundaries of the Special Improvement District and (ii) that are locally designated Historic Landmarks and/or are located within a locally designated Historic District in accordance with the Historic Designation Ordinance located outside the Special Improvement District, to encourage appropriate and sound development therein..."
