Westfield Edges Elizabeth 8-6
Blue Devils baseball team takes on Scotch Plains Sunday in Union County Tournament semifinals.

Brad Norris pitched 5 2/3rds strongs innings and Liam Devin delivered a two-run triple in the bottom of the 6th inning to lead Westfield to an 8-6 win over a feisty Elizabeth team at Bob Brewster Sr. Memorial Field yesterday.
Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd, Westfield plated 3 runs on an Anthony Perconte (2 hits) single, an RBI double by Quinn Dursee, a walk to Mike Ionta and a groundout by Devin. Elizabeth rallied to tie at 3 in the top of the 4th but the Blue Devils scored 2 in the bottom half on Perconte's RBI base hit and a 2 out error by the Minutemen to take a 5-3 lead.
Elizabeth then scratched out two runs to tie in the top of the 6th, taking advantage of Westfield's own two out miscue. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Matt Storcks & Ionta walked with one out, setting the stage for Devin, who scored himself on an overthrow to 3rd. Chris Arena added two ringing doubles for Westfield and Dursee finished up on the mound for the final 1 1/3rd innings to help the Blue Devils to their fourth consecutive victory.
Next up for 10-8 Westfield is the Union County Semifinals against Scotch Plains at Williams Field in Elizabeth, Sunday May 5th at 3 p.m.
