Westfield Eighth Graders Present Virtual Play Friday And Saturday
Learn about the history of theater at breakneck speed, without leaving your home! Forty students will bring the drama.
WESTFIELD, NJ — The Theater Guild at Westfield's Edison Intermediate School will present its Eighth Grade Drama this Friday and Saturday, streamed virtually: “The Complete History of Theater (Abridged)."
In the play, a zany cast of characters will quickly take viewers through the history of theater from all parts of the globe, from Aristophanes to Emile Zola.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. both evenings.

Despite an age difference of several hundred years, master playwright William Shakespeare, theatrical diva Sarah Bernhardt, and the indelible intellectual Konstantin Stanislavski all collaborated on the performance, along with the full Edison cast of 40 actors and technical crew.
Explore the beginnings of Greek theatre, Aristotle’s Poetics, the fine art of Kabuki, the history of mime, the gladiators of Rome, and speculation on the real author of Shakespeare’s plays.

The virtual production pays homage to the world’s best-known and beloved plays and musicals, alluding to dialogue from Edward Albee, Bertolt Brecht, Samuel Beckett, Noël Coward, Anton Chekhov, Caryl Churchill, Henrik Ibsen, Arthur Miller, David Mamet, Harold Pinter, Sarah Ruhl, Sam Shepard, Neil Simon, August Strindberg, August Wilson, Thornton Wilder, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Oscar Wilde and many more. This interactive farce will keep you in stitches at every turn on a rollicking ride!
