Westfield, Garwood, Cranford Cops Collar Car Thieves
The car taken from Mountainview Circle was left unlocked with the key fob inside, police said.
WESTFIELD, NJ - A trio of car thieves were arrested on Friday after the police departments of Westfield, Garwood and Cranford combined forces in the search, according to officials.
It began when the Westfield Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle shortly before 10:15 p.m. from the 900 block of Mountainview Circle.
The vehicle was left unlocked with the key fob inside, police said.
The vehicle was recovered less than two hours later in the area of Fourth Avenue/Maple Street in Garwood after police responded to a reported attempted vehicle theft on the 700 block of Sherman Street in Westfield.
Police said after an extensive search of the area and a subsequent foot pursuit one adult from East Orange and two juveniles, one from East Orange and one from Newark were arrested.
A second vehicle stolen from Livingston was also recovered on the 300 block of Maple Street in Garwood, police said.
This investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges will be forthcoming and announced when finalized, police said.
