Westfield Home 'Uninhabitable' After Fire

WESTFIELD, NJ - It may have only taken ten minutes to get under control, but the fire that broke out in a Forest Avenue home Wednesday morning has left the building uninhabitable, officials said.

According to authorities, dispatch received a call at 8:51 a.m. that fire was visible from the exterior of a home on Forest Avenue. Union County Mutual Aid assisted with firefighters from Cranford, Springfield and Plainfield on the scene and the fire was under control by 9:01 a.m., officials said.

Crews overhauled the home and until shortly before 10 a.m. to make sure the fire remained under control. According to officials, the owner was home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.
