Westfield Honors HS Boys Tennis Team Champions With Proclamation

This marked the 15th time in the school's history that the Blue Devils were named State Champions.

Westfield, NJ - The Westfield High School Boys Tennis State Champions were honored by the town Mayor and Council with a proclamation during the June 21 meeting.

The team captured the Group 4 State Championship by defeating two teams that they had lost to earlier in the season, Montgomery and Livingston.

Their win on May 25, marked the 15th time in the school's history that the Blue Devils were named State Champions.

During the season, the team posted a 22 and 4 record and were crowned champions of the Watchung Division of the Union County Conference, North 2 Group 4 Sectional champions, and for the 12th year in a row, Union County Tournament champions.

"The Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Westfield wish to commend the members of the Westfield Blue Devils Boys Tennis Team for all that they have accomplished," Westfield Mayor Andrew K. Skibitsky read at the meeting. "On behalf of the Town Council and the good citizens of the Town of Westfield, on this twenty-first day of June in the year 2016, do hereby congratulate the student athletes of the 2016 Westfield High School Blue Devils Boys Tennis Team on their championship season and do hereby applaud them for their exceptional dedication to the sport and to sportsmanship."

Members of the Westfield Boys Tennis Team:

  • Senior co-captains Tyler Roth and William Kelly,
  • Seniors Max Carle, Ryan Dang, Andrew Natko and Aaron Tavasi; Juniors Owen Bartok and Noah Reich;
  • Sophomores Damien Ruparel, Robert Faktor, and Jacob Tananbaum;
  • and Freshmen Matthew Bartok and Matthew Su
  • Coach George Kapner, a member of the New Jersey Coaches Association Hall of Fame;
  • and Assistant Coaches Jeff Knight and Adam Gerckens.
