WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield resident Athony Kuzviwanza, a cinematographer and producer who films behind-the-scenes content and works on documentaries for the NBA, filmed a video recently of the Black Lives Matter protest in Westfield.

His mom Arlene gushed about it — as moms are wont to do — on Patch, posting a link: "My son, a resident of Westfield and a videographer, created this."

When contacted, Anthony explained how the video came about. "I’ve been frustrated at the comments and negative stuff on social media and just needed to see some positivity," he said. "Not to sound like the song but I know the kids are the future and are so important to the change we are looking for systematically, so when I heard the HS organized their own protest I had to go."

He added, "It was so uplifting to see everyone coming together. Then I just went home and tossed the video together."

He noted, "But to be honest I’m fine not being mentioned in this post — if anything give credit to all the kids who organized and made it happen, as well as all the protestors who showed up, that would mean more to me!"

The protest was organized by Westfield High School student Nala Angella Scott and others (see link).

As for Kuzviwanza, he won an Emmy for a documentary about Dr. J. in 2013, and also does documentary sports content for all ages through his company, Fresh Focus Sport. He graduated from Muhlenberg College in 2004.
