Westfield Memorial Library offers Alexander Technique for Well Being and Mozart Celebration

(May 24, 2017) – On Wednesday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library will present a program on increasing physical and mental well being, and on Saturday, June 10 at 2:00 pm, the library will present a Mozart celebration streamed from Lincoln Center Local. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.

Designed to increase physical and emotional well-being, the Alexander Technique is a set of simple movements and a mindset that helps with pain and discomfort, as well as with the negative feelings that can affect health.

Instructor Zadok Ruben will guide program participants through basic movements and the thinking designed for coping with pain and stress. Ruben is a certified Alexander Technique teacher who has studied in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Virginia.

His teaching practice includes lessons to military veterans and to students at the New Jersey Workshop for the Performing Arts in Westfield. He is also a faculty teacher at the Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique and presents anatomy at teacher training programs.

As a partner in the “Lincoln Center Local: Free Screenings Series,” the Westfield Memorial Library will continue the 2017 series with a Mozart Celebration.

This festive all-Mozart program features the exquisite Piano Trio in B-flat major, K. 502; the charming Horn Quintet in E-flat major, K. 407; and the exuberant Viola Quintet in C major.

The program is performed by pianist Soyeon Kate Lee; violinists Benjamin Beilman and Ani Kavafian; violists Lily Francis and Paul Neubauer; cellist Timothy Eddy, and horn player Radovan Vlatkovic.

Library Director Phil Israel said, “We are happy we can continue to bring world-class performances to the Library, as the previous performances have been so well attended. Our goal is to continue to enrich the lives of our patrons with high-quality arts programming in their own backyard.”

The Free Screening Series is generously funded through support from the Oak Foundation, Altman Foundation and Booth Ferris Foundation.
