Westfield Mourns 'Unexpected' Death Of Detective
Hundreds are mourning the "unexpected and untimely" death of Westfield Police Detective Eric Lieberman, lovingly called 'Dude,' on Tuesday.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Police departments all over the local area are mourning the unexpected and untimely death of Westfield Police Detective Eric Lieberman, lovingly called "Dude."
Lieberman had been employed by the Westfield Police Department and an active PBA Member for 27 years. He currently held the rank of Detective First Grade.
Westfield PBA 90 announced his death on Tuesday night.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all those who loved him. Rest In Peace 'Dude,' " Westfield PBA 90 posted.
Neighboring police departments such as Summit, Fanwood and Kenilworth shared their condolences as well.

"Chief Richard Trigo and members of the Fanwood Police Department extend our most sincere condolences and sympathy to the Westfield Police Department, the family, friends and coworkers on the loss of Det. Eric Lieberman," Fanwood Police Department posted.
On Facebook, hundreds of locals also shared their condolences.
"I’m so sorry. What a wonderful human being. I’m sending you all my love," said Brandi Hoynowski.
"So sad. Will always remember his humor. RIP. Too young and soon," said Robin Marko.
"So sad and my thoughts and prayers are with his boys and wonderful parents," Patricia Denny McCullough said.
"We loved seeing Detective Lieberman at McKinley School. Our prayers to his family and friends!!" Julie Minogue Fetter said.
