Westfield Named A Tree City USA
The Arbor Day Foundation awarded the designation.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Town of Westfield has been named a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The announcement was made by Town Administrator Jim Gildea at Tuesday's Town Council meeting.

The town achieved this recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

To commemorate this designation, a Tree City USA flag is now flown at Town Hall, and Tree City USA signage will be placed at entrance points to the Town. In addition, a new beech tree — representing preservation, progress, and longevity — was planted in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day on April 22 at Memorial Park.
“Becoming a Tree City USA is great recognition of Westfield’s ongoing commitment to forestry maintenance,” said Gildea. “I’m grateful to our Public Works Forestry Division, Green Team, and the Tree Preservation Commission for their collective effort to make this possible.”
