Westfield Opens Free Storm Debris Drop-Off For Residents

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield residents will be able to bring storm-related organic debris to the conservation center without a permit this Thursday through Sunday, according to Town Administrator Jim Gildea.

Gildea announced the temporary change during the Aug. 11 Town Council meeting while giving an update on the storms that moved through town last week.

He said Westfield had two storms, with the Friday storm described as brief but disruptive. He also referenced power outages tied to the weather and said service was restored quickly.

The town’s conservation center will remain open "this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, as usual," Gildea said.

During those days, residents bringing organic debris from the storms will not need a permit and will not be charged, said Gildea.

"We're going to allow residents, if they have debris, organic debris from the storm last Friday, particularly, or any time last week. They can bring it to the center for no cost without a permit," Gildea said.
