2 Hospitalized After Driver Suffers Medical Episode In Westfield Crash: Police

The Tesla left the road and drove across a lawn, a front walkway, and into and over the front steps to a Westfield home on Monday: Police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Two people are hospitalized after a driver suffering from a medical episode crashed in Westfield on Monday, said Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.

Around 10:17 a.m., a Tesla left the roadway while driving south on Central Avenue.

"It drove across a lawn, a front walkway, and into and over the front steps to a home located on the 1500 block of Central Avenue," said Battiloro.

The adult male driver appears to have suffered from some type of medical episode, said Battiloro.

The adult female passenger was critically injured. Both had to be extricated from the vehicle and were taken by EMS to the University Hospital in Newark.

Central Avenue reopened around 3 p.m.
