Westfield Psychologist Publishes Book Addressing Healthcare Crisis
Peggy Rothbaum talks with 50 doctors about the healthcare crisis and the doctor patient relationship.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A Westfield psychologist and author is shedding light on the health crisis in her new book “I Have Been Talking with Your Doctor: Fifty Doctors Talk about the Healthcare Crisis and the Doctor Patient Relationship.”
Peggy Rothbaum, PhD, interviewed 50 doctors using about four pages of questions that she developed based on the professional research literature on doctoring and her personal professional experience working with doctors to craft the book.
Rothbaum began by interviewing three physicians for another book but the responses she got back were “pretty interesting and disturbing.”

She continued to interview more physicians and the information she gathered remained “consistent and startling.”
“After completing the interviews, I am left with an even deeper understanding of the health care crisis,” Rothbaum wrote in her blog about the book. “I stay informed about the crisis. Or, so I thought. However, it is worse than I ever imagined. The insurance companies are dictating rationed, inadequate, insufficient health care for all of us. This leaves the fine men and women doctors who I interviewed, as well as their colleagues, in a totally untenable situation, which they juggle and manage with skill, compassion and dedication that is beyond impressive. It is my hope that these interviews will expose an intimate portrait of the gravity and urgency of our healthcare crisis.”

Rothbaum included the 50 doctors and their responses in the book, which was released on Sept. 7.

The book is called “Taking Care of Little Snoogie: A Story about Pet Loss for Adults.”
