WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dolan said in a letter Tuesday that a staff member at two of the district schools tested positive for coronavirus, but had no contact with staff and students.

The superintendent wrote, "This is to notify you that a staff member who works in Jefferson and Lincoln Schools has tested positive for covid-19. Through its contact tracing protocol, the Westfield Regional Health Department has concluded that there was no contact with or exposure to any student or employee at either Jefferson or Lincoln. Therefore, all of our schools will remain open for hybrid, in-person instruction."

In mid-September, the high school went fully remote for two weeks after six students tested positive for the virus.

"I cannot provide further details," Dolan wrote, "but I can say that the staff member — who is self-isolating — was interviewed extensively by the health department. As is the case in all of our schools every day, every area in both Jefferson and Lincoln has been thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized."

She wrote, "The health, safety, and well-being of our school community remains our top priority. We are following sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure that we are doing everything we can to protect the health of our students and staff. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of wearing masks, staying 6 feet apart from others, and regularly washing your hands."
