Westfield Tennis Association Singles Ladder

The eighth and final reporting period of the regular season came to a close with an amazing fifty matches played and a shakeup at the top of the standings.  Andrew Skalkin ascended to the top spot with a close 6-3 7-6 (5) victory over Michael Conte, thus giving him the regular season crown.  This was the first week that Skalkin held this position and it came at the right time.  The win ensures Skalkin the top seed for the playoffs.  After Conte lost his stranglehold on the top spot, he further slipped in the standings to third with a 3-6 6-4 6-4 loss to Andrew Federbusch.  The win by Federbusch, which moved him to the second seed, reversed a 6-4 6-2 loss to Conte in the previous week.  Conte kept the third position with wins over Francisco Franco (8-2), Tom Bauer 6-4 5-7 10-7 (in a tiebreak) and Joe Buda 3-6 6-2 6-4.  The latter win came on the heels of a tie to Buda where Conte narrowly escaped defeat 6-4 1-6 4-5 when the lights went out at Tamaques Park.  Buda kept the fourth position with a 6-3 6-3 6-3 win over Tuyen Diep.  Bauer dropped to the fifth position after his loss to Conte.  The most active crown again goes to Joshua Suri with thirty four matches played.  This was a drop from his incredible mark of forty six in 2009 but was a big contribution to the two hundred thirteen matches played on the season by the entire ladder.  The playoffs will now commence with twenty eight members qualifying.  The format will be a single elimination tournament with the top sixteen in one bracket and the remaining twelve in another bracket.  Please report all match scores to Richard Pardo at rspardo531@msn.com.
