"I am so lucky to have been able to do what I love to do throughout my professional life — telling stories, informing communities, and shaping conversations through clear, thoughtful communication. Whether during my years in print and broadcast journalism or school communications, I have always believed in the power of words to inform, inspire, and connect people. Writing well isn’t just about grammar or style; it’s about clarity, honesty, and impact.," said McGann.
During her tenure in Westfield, Gonzalez credited McGann with being "instrumental in steering key communications campaigns that successfully won voter support for the district’s operating budgets the first such approvals in over a decade."

Gonzelez also said McGann played a crucial role in strengthening community relations, redesigning the district and school logos and the district's website.
"Through these efforts, she has significantly improved the district’s outreach and cultivated valuable partnerships within the Westfield community," said Gonzalez. "While we are sad to see her leave we are excited for Maryann as she begins a well-deserved retirement after an amazing career in August."
McGann's last day of employment will be July 31.
"I’m looking forward to enjoying all the activities I’ve had less time for while working — more books to read, more walks and bike rides to take, more time to spend with family, and a return to volunteerism," said McGann. "It’s a chance to slow down, savor new experiences, and give back in ways that have always been important to me. "
