Wrestling Team Announces Fundraising Campaign

WHS team needs to defray cost of events.

Five Guys and Rita's Water Ice will be helping the Westfield High School wrestling team raise funds to help the students attend tournaments and camps.

On the evening of Tuesday, June 1, Five Guys will donate a portion of purchases to the fund for the team. The burger joint is on East Broad Street.

On Tuesday, June 15, Rita's, on Quimby Street, will similarly donate a portion of receipts to the wrestling team.

The events were announced at Tuesday evening's meeting of the Town Council.

This is the second year that the team will hold a fundraiser at Rita's. The team's fundraiser last year was one of the most popular of the summer and brought in a large crowd, which included Mayor Andy Skibitsky and Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz (R-Summit). Skibitsky's son, Troy, is a member of the wrestling team.

The team holds regular fundraisers throughout the year to help defray the costs of equipment and travel for the team. The team is partially funded through the Board of Education, with the rest of the funds being privately raised. The team attends the fundraisers to sell Westfield wrestling items including magnets and shirts.

The team also announced plans for a fall fundraiser not to be held downtown.

The team is also requesting donations of items for them to sell at a garage sale scheduled for Sept. 25.
