Wrong-Way Crash Kills Woman, Injures Two In Union County, Police Say

One person was killed and two others were injured after a driver entered oncoming traffic on Morris Avenue in Union Township, police said.

UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 66-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured after a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction crashed into another car on Morris Avenue, according to authorities.

Police said the crash happened Thursday, June 25, around 5 p.m. near Colonial Avenue when a vehicle headed eastbound in the westbound lanes collided with an oncoming car.

The 66-year-old woman who was driving the other vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said.

A 71-year-old man driving the wrong-way vehicle was also hospitalized. Officials said his condition has not been released. A third driver, a 24-year-old man, was also involved in the crash and suffered minor injuries.

Before the main collision, police said the wrong-way vehicle hit several other cars between a shopping center and a gas station along Morris Avenue. Those earlier impacts caused property damage, but no injuries were reported.

The woman who died has not yet been publicly identified.
