2 Car Crimes Reported In West Orange: Attempted Burglary, Stolen Part

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Two motor vehicle-related crimes were recently reported in West Orange, authorities say.

According to West Orange police reports, an attempted car burglary was reported on Jan. 3.

Officers responded to a Whittlesey Avenue home around 9 p.m. The victim told them that an unknown person tried to force their way into the front passenger side door of her 2015 Ford Explorer.

Police said the suspect apparently used a prying tool in the attempt to enter the door, which was damaged in the effort. Nothing was missing from the vehicle.

The victim told police that she wasn’t sure when the incident took place. However, she noticed the wind was blowing inside the vehicle while driving on the highway on Jan. 2.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Another incident involving a motor vehicle was reported on Jan. 6, West Orange police said.

An officer responded to High Street after getting a report about a stolen catalytic converter, which was taken from a 2008 Honda CRV sometime during the overnight hours. The car was parked on the west side of High Street at the time of the theft.

The expensive car part – valued at $1,000 – was cut off the undercarriage of the vehicle, police said.
