2 People Shot In West Orange, 1 Dies: Authorities

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, a town spokesperson said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A shooting on Watson Avenue in West Orange killed one person and wounded another on Tuesday afternoon. The shooter is still at large, authorities said.

Two people were hit by gunfire and one has died, a township spokesperson said. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, he added.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the investigation. Patch has reached out to authorities for more information.

West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi released a statement about the shooting on Tuesday afternoon. He wrote:

"Unfortunately, there was a shooting this afternoon on Watson Avenue. Two victims sustained injuries. The shooter is still at large. There is no additional information at this time as this just happened a short time ago and law enforcement has just begun the investigation. The Essex County Prosecutors Office will oversee the investigation, working with the West Orange NJ Police Department, and they will provide official updates on the well-being of the victims as well as the progress of the investigation. If anyone has information about this incident that would be helpful to the investigation, you should contact the West Orange Police Department at 973-325-4000."
