The event also offers free admission to the Thomas Edison National Historical Park, a beer and wine garden, and special World Cup-themed activities from FIFA NYNJ, with free parking and shuttle service to make attending easier.
2. A Decade of Inspiration: Kelly Elementary Marks 10 Years Since Renaming (tapinto.net) — Kelly Elementary students in West Orange recently marked 10 years since their school was renamed for twin astronaut alumni Mark and Scott Kelly, celebrating with a history-themed assembly and video messages from the brothers. Former principal Joanna Pollara and current principal David Marion used the milestone to highlight lessons of courage, collaboration, and perseverance, reminding kids that extraordinary journeys can start in their own classrooms.
3. Engel wins at-large Essex commissioner nomination in win for progressives; McGrath, Richardson, and Yasin win rest of nominations (newjerseyglobe.com) — Essex County’s at-large Democratic commissioner primary brought a notable result for West Orange, as local Democratic chair and fire captain Abdur Yasin secured one of four nominations. Alongside Verona’s Christine McGrath, Deborah Engel, and incumbent Wayne Richardson, Yasin will advance to a November race where Democrats remain heavily favored in historically blue Essex County.
4. Get to Know Your Orange: #88 WR, Terrell Wilfong (nunesmagician.com) — A rising Syracuse University wide receiver got his start in West Orange, where Terrell Wilfong starred in both football and basketball at West Orange High School. The redshirt freshman, a 6'6" target recruited by multiple major programs, is expected to develop behind more experienced receivers but could become a matchup problem thanks to his size.
5. Advocates rally crowd after Pride symbol's removal in West Orange (outinjersey.net) — West Orange residents and LGBTQ advocates rallied at Town Hall after a painted Pride flag was removed from the front steps just before Pride Month, sparking debate over a township policy banning symbolic displays there.
