West Orange Fire Chief Retires After 25 Years Of Service With Town

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A longtime veteran of the West Orange Fire Department is retiring after 25 years of service: chief Anthony Vecchio.

The township recently announced Vecchio’s retirement in a social media post.

“Since joining the department in June 2001, Chief Vecchio has made West Orange a better place by always placing public safety as a priority for residents of West Orange,” the post read.

“His years of service have left a lasting impact on the department, his co-workers, and the people he has fostered relationships with over the years,” the announcement continued. “The Township of West Orange wishes him good health, happiness, and many rewarding adventures in his well-earned retirement and all future endeavors.”

Mayor Susan McCartney also congratulated Vecchio on his retirement:

“On behalf of the Township of West Orange, I extend my deepest gratitude as mayor to Chief Tony Vecchio for his remarkable 25 years of dedicated service to our community. Throughout his career, Chief Vecchio has exemplified professionalism along with an unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of our residents. His leadership has strengthened our fire department and inspired generations of firefighters who have had the privilege to serve alongside him. The cards, calls and emails I receive from residents on the professional care rendered by our firefighters/EMTs are testament to the chief's leadership.”

“Acting Chief Nicholas Gillo is committed to continuing in Chief Vecchio’s role with the same dedication and level of service our residents have come to expect from the West Orange Fire Department which has being faithfully serving and protecting the community since 1894,” the mayor added.
