WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange African Heritage Organization (WOAHO) will hold their 2026 college scholarship fundraiser at West Orange High School on Sunday, June 28.
The annual event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Tarnoff Cafeteria, 51 Conforti Avenue. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door. Children’s tickets are $20 (5 to 12-years-old).
All proceeds will go towards scholarships for seniors at West Orange High School.
Here’s what to expect this year at the Men Who Cook Scholarship Fundraiser, organizers said:
“This annual event, to fund the Holcomb Scholarship, has been described as ‘the most fun’ and ‘deeply cultural.’ All dishes, from soups to salads, ribs to salmon, rice to pastas and desserts galore are prepared by local home chefs (including firefighters, lawyers, teachers and even a council member), are unbelievable! It is truly an event for the whole community. Everyone is welcome. The scholarship is open to all West Orange college bound seniors, regardless of which high school they attend or which college they will attend.”
“Over the past decade the WOAHO's Holcomb Scholarship has awarded $100,000 to college-bound seniors from West Orange,” said Althia Tweinten, a retired educator and this year's fundraising chair.
“With the cost of college increasing and critical cuts to FAFSA, our students need financial help,” agreed Brent Draper Scott, a professor at Mercy University and WOAHO's outgoing vice president.
