WEST ORANGE, NJ — Spain's national soccer team ate pizza from a West Orange shop on Sunday, hours after winning the World Cup, according to the shop's owner.
Bagels by Jarrett owner Jarrett Seltzer said in a Facebook post that the order was not the shop's first tied to a major international soccer win. He referenced a previous instance in which he provided pizzas to Norway's team after a win.
"I didn't think providing pizzas to Norway after winning as a dog could ever be beaten," he wrote. "It was a moment in time I tried to just soak in and enjoy."
According to the post, Spain's order came about an hour after Seltzer and his staff finalized a new pizza dough recipe he had been developing for months.
"Something none of you know is that while we changed our pizza dough 4 months ago, I've been tweaking it every single day," he wrote. "I've had issues I wasn't happy with and it's been a journey if you will."
Seltzer said he identified a change earlier in the week that he believed had been affecting the dough's consistency, and revised his recipe and method, testing it Saturday morning.
"We made a pizza, it came out of the oven and it was perfect," he wrote. "Months and months of frustration were over, the method and recipe were perfect and were saved."
"Hard work pays off. Champions are eating our pizza tonight," he wrote. "Don't give up, work for everything you want in life."
"Thank you for trusting a bagel shop with your first meal as champions," he wrote.
The shop's Facebook post did not specify further details about the order size or how it was arranged.
Bagels by Jarrett describes itself as a bagel shop turned upscale takeout restaurant, offering bagels, pizza, and Mexican and Asian specials, with pasta made in house and burger meat ground in house.
A pizza slice shop is also attached to the original building for ordering and eating in person.
