WEST ORANGE, NJ — A milestone ceremony took place in West Orange this week when the police department promoted its first female sergeant.
Karen Mango was among the police officers who earned a rise at Tuesday's promotion ceremony on the steps of Town Hall.
Other officers who earned promotions included Sebastian de Leon, who was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and two other new sergeants: Lawrence Dominguez and Noah Herskovitz.
Susan McCartney, the first female mayor in West Orange town history, congratulated Mango for her achievement, as well as the other promoted officers.
"With each promotion comes greater responsibility and the opportunity to lead by example," McCartney told the officers.
New Jersey Assemblywoman Rosy Bagolie also attended the ceremony and offered remarks congratulating the newly promoted officers on their achievements and their continued commitment to public service.
