'Unsightly' Conditions At West Orange Pond Will Lead To Improvements, Official Says

West Orange is planning to make upgrades at Vincent's Pond.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange is planning to make upgrades at Vincent's Pond in the wake of some "unsightly" conditions, a local official says.

Mayor Susan McCartney recently penned a letter to residents living near the pond, a tributary of the Rahway River that is located in Degnan Park.

According to McCartney, there have been some "unsightly current conditions" reported in the area.

Here's what is being done, she said:

"The Township of West Orange is moving forward with the Vincent's Pond Walkway Improvements Project, which focuses on upgrading the walking path that circles the pond. The project will include the removal of the existing asphalt path and the installation of a new Geopave porous walkway surface. This material is designed to allow water to permeate through the surface, helping to improve drainage and reduce stormwater runoff. In addition to replacing the pathway, the project will include minor slope stabilization along the pond banks where needed and soil restoration adjacent to the reconstructed walkway. These improvements are intended to enhance walkability, improve accessibility, and help protect the pond's shoreline from erosion."

"Vincent's Pond is a valued recreational and natural resource for our community," the mayor said. "These improvements are designed to preserve and enhance the passive area of the park for residents who use the path for walking, exercise and enjoying the outdoors."
