The Horn Family Honored by West Orange Shillelagh Club

Friendly Sons Honor The Horn Family at Annual Gala

The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Essex Chapter, is proud to announce that The Horn Family, of Pals Cabin and Mayfair Farms fame, will be honored as this year’s Friends of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh at their annual dinner dance on Saturday evening, May 4th at Mayfair Farms, West Orange, NJ.

The Horn family is being honored for their commitment and service to the local community, spanning 8o years.  A fixture at the corner of Prospect and Eagle Rock Aves since 1932, Pals Cabin rose from humble beginnings as a hot dog stand, to the top of the food chain (pun intended) on the Essex County, and even tri-state restaurant scene.  And Horn family operated Mayfair Farms has consistently ranked among the best catering facilities in North Jersey.   The Horn Family, recognized for their outstanding commitment to the hospitality industry, have owned and operated Pals Cabin and Mayfair Farms since the beginning.

The family’s roots run deep in the community.  Pals Cabin has always been a popular home and meeting place for service organizations, too many to name.  And, the Shillelagh Club will forever be grateful to the Horn family for helping them obtain a liquor license back in 1972. This was a huge boost for the fledgling Irish club and certainly helped build the membership and ensure the organizations survival.

Of course, everyone was saddened recently with the news that Pals will soon be closing their doors.  Although the iconic building will be gone, the Horn family plans to continue serving their loyal clientele through smaller venues that are in development.  The landmark will be missed but the fond memories will remain for years to come.  Like going back to the future, a scaled down (maybe even cabin like?) version of Pals may be coming to a town near you.
