“It is with deep reflection and a heavy heart that I announce my resignation from the West Orange Township Council, effective immediately. This decision has not come easily. Over the past year, I have been managing ongoing health challenges. While I’ve done my best to fulfill my duties with strength and integrity, I now must prioritize my healing and well-being—for myself, my family, and especially for my son. When I was elected in 2022 as the highest vote-getter in a competitive race, I was deeply honored and humbled by the overwhelming support from our residents. It meant the world to me then, and it still does now. That trust has guided every decision I’ve made on this Council. Serving the people of West Orange has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I’m proud of the work we’ve done—amplifying community voices, championing good governance and transparency, and striving for inclusive, thoughtful leadership. Though I am stepping down from this official role, I will always be a daughter of West Orange and remain committed to uplifting our community in other ways. I extend my deepest gratitude to the residents for believing in me, and I wish my colleagues on the Council continued strength and success.”

“This isn’t goodbye – it’s simply a new chapter,” Ghebremicael said. “I will always be rooted in this community and remain committed to its growth, equity, and strength in new ways.”

“Thank you all for the trust, encouragement, and unwavering support,” her letter concluded.
