Back To School In West Orange: Be Careful Driving, Officials Say
A new school year kicks off Wednesday in West Orange. Here are some quick reminders for drivers and parents.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — A new school year kicks off this week in West Orange, and local public safety officials are asking drivers to be extra-careful as students return to class.
The first day of class for students in the West Orange Public School District begins on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
“As schools reopen, drivers must stay extra vigilant around school zones and buses,” township officials reminded local motorists last week.

“Slow down, obey school zone speed limits, and be prepared to stop when school buses are loading or unloading children,” officials said. “Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing. Be aware of children crossing the road, especially in the morning and afternoon. Safety first—let’s protect our students.”
West Orange police officers will be present near schools as the 2024-2025 academic year kicks off. Here are a few reminders for drivers and parents from local authorities:

- “Officers will be there to educate the parents and students on the drop-off procedures in and around the schools as needed.”
- “Parking regulations will be strictly enforced on cars left unoccupied and those occupied will be advised of their violation and asked to move.”
- “Any moving violations in the school zones will be strictly enforced.”
- “Security and a high visible presence in the school zone will be done by all Officers working that zone.”
- “WOPD supervisors will utilize marked vehicles for the day and unmarked vehicles will be used for undetected patrol.”
- “During school hours patrols will monitor the areas in and around each school.”
- “The same plan will be used at the end of school dismissal.”
