ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — As heat indexes hit 111 degrees in some parts of New Jersey, the Turtle Back Zoo is misting animals to help them beat the soaring temps.
On Sunday, the Essex County-run zoo in West Orange posted a video of handlers spraying down a bison in their Great Plains exhibit. The footage has garnered more than 5,400 views since being posted.
“Guess he's a water buffalo!” one commenter wrote.

Some experts called the heat on Sunday among New Jersey’s worst so far this year. Parts of Mercer County and Monmouth County reached a 110- to 111-degree heat index on Sunday.
