Air Conditioning 101...Have you Changed Your Filter?

School is out, many children are at camp or summer programs, and the weather has finally changed ... it's summer in New Jersey! Our schedules are busy, there's never enough time to sit and enjoy the solitude of our days.

Solitude? What solitude?! It's rush, rush, rush in our neck of the woods. 

Our air conditioning units sit idly by, providing a constant comfortable climate in our homes, seemingly by themselves. We take this large box for granted. Until one day, we notice that it's warmer in our house than it should be and so, we panic.

We search the web looking for an answer. Automatically, we fear the worst. And we find an air conditoning contractor that seems trustworthy. Perhaps a reccomendation from a relative, friend or neighbor. We call...we wait...we worry! We schedule a service call.

The tech arrives at your home and after asking a few questions he checks to be sure your switch is not "off." (One of the most common reasons for not cooling to your home!) He then heads to the furnace in your basement or the fan coil in your attic and removes what appears to be a block of concrete. But, no, it's only two inches of dust and debris that have accumulated on the one inch disposable filter for your system. New filter in hand, the AC tech checks a few more connections, heads outside and places gauges on your condensing unit and before you know it, you're beginning to feel cold air from the registers within your home.

Sound like a familiar scenario? We see you nodding!

One of the easiest maintenance items for you, the homeowner, to perform is to replace the filter for your ducted system every month. (Yes, every month!)

Save yourself frustration, and, save some money.

• Flip the page of the calendar ... change your filter.

So now your system is working and hopefully you won't have more problems. Be proactive. Engage the services of a local, professional air conditioning contractor for annual maintenance or whenever you're in the need of service and changing the filter doesn't do the trick.
