Kevin Cabrera and Paul Okoh Win WOPL Anime Art Contest
The winners of the 2013 Anime Club Art Contest were announced on March 27.
The West Orange Public Library’s 2013 Anime Art Contest was an example of how prevalent artistic talent is among teens in West Orange, as was displayed in the quality of the entries, which included works by local 6th through 12th graders.
After a month of voting, the winner and first runner-up were awarded for their art following the March 27 meeting of the library’s Anime Club. The winners were decided based on voting that took place throughout March, and all library users were eligible to vote.
First place was awarded to Kevin Cabrera, a 12th grader whose art depicts a female character with glasses in a highly detailed black and white pencil sketch.

The first runner-up was Paul Okoh, an 8th grader who also drew a detailed black and white pencil sketch, with his depicting a man who appears to be part-wolf wielding two weapons beneath a full moon.
Cabrera earned a $35 gift certificate to Jerry’s Artist Outlet and Okoh took home $15 to the store. All 12 entries in the contest were displayed throughout March and the competition was close—many of the pieces received dozens of votes from library patrons.
