The Cease and Desist Letter Goes Viral on the Internet

My take on the Cease and Desist letter, putting aside politics and personal relationships:

1. Mr. Freivald, a member of the Public Relations Commission (PRC), set up and moderates two web sites: West Orange, NJ Forum -http://localforums.org/westorange/forum/ , which contains the blogs, and http://www.westorange.info which contains the index to the various web sites about West Orange.  
2. West Orange, NJ Forum has many bloggers who are critical of the Town government.   Since the PRC is tasked with spreading good things about West Orange, Mr. Freivald’s moderating this forum could be sending mixed signals to the public, i.e., “conflict of interest.”
3. Some members of the PRC, which may include the Public Information Officer, as Liaison, requested the Administration, through Mr. Trenk, for Mr. Freivald to shut down the forum by unregistering the domain.
4. Mr.Trenk sends Mr. Freivald a cease and desist letter to unregister the
   westorange.info domain , which is the WRONG domain since the blogs are in the other domain, West Orange, NJ Forum.
5. Mr. Freivald’s lawyer responds to Mr. Trenk’s illegal cease and desist letter which goes viral in the internet, resulting in ridicule of Mr. Trenk’s letter, and the Town’s Administration being perceived as “bullish.”
6. To resolve the “conflict of interest” situation with Mr. Freivald and the PRC, the Administration should have asked for his resignation from the PRC, instead of sending the cease and desist letter, which ironically, illegally demanded the unregistration of the WRONG domain.
7. The Administration’s publicly admitting the mistake, and retracting the cease and desist letter, will go a long way in restoring the Administration’s integrity, and removing the perception that it is “bullish” towards its citizens.
