'Tis the Season of Sweets

Sweets of the season that satisfy your cravings but won't ruin your diet.

What happened to October? Pink is the color of the month and World Food Day was celebrated on Oct. 16. So now that we are quickly approaching the holiday season, it's that time of year when we spend extra time with family and friends.  Children are looking forward to Oct. 31 and everyone is looking forward to the special days that follow ... the season of SWEETS!

So if you have a sweet tooth, determine what you're after. It's usually more than just sweets. Think about texture: cold and creamy, soft and chewy, or hard and crunchy. A delicious fresh fruit can satisfy your sweet cravings, but what happens when you want something more? Look for healthier textured sweets that won’t ruin your diet and will satisfy your cravings.

If you're looking for something cold and creamy, try fat-free ice cream, sorbet or portion controlled ice cream sandwiches. Looking for something soft and chewy, try fruit filled cookies or a cereal bar which are usually lower in fat than regular cookies. If its hard and crunchy, biscotti or cinnamin graham crackers go great with a cup of tea.
