West Orange Rotary Club Installs New President and Board of Directors for 2012-2013
The Rotary Club of West Orange Holds Installation Dinner Thursday, June 28,2012 at Mayfair Farms
On Thursday night, June 28, 2012, the Rotary Club of West Orange held it's 85th Annual Installation Dinner at Mayfair Farms. The Rotary Club of West Orange was founded in 1928.
Tekeste Ghebremicael became the 85th president of the club. Each term lasts 1 year and starts on July 1. Christos K. Alevras will serve as President-Elect in which capacity, he will supervise the year's fundraisers. Gladys Harris will be Vice President; her job will be to schedule all of the programs for the year's meetings. John F. Wise will serve as Secretary and Richard Cimo is the new Treasurer of the Club. The Board of Directors will include Robbie Hershon, Donald P. O'Dea, Jerry P. Tarnoff, Jeffrey Dunst, Peter T. Ricci and Joseph A. Vena.
During the evening, a few significant awards were given out. Amelia Panico received the "Service Above Self" award for her committment to Rotary over the years as well as her donation of her profession, acting as club photographer. Dr. Gerald Lichtenstein also received a Service Above Self Award for his many contributions to Rotary, notably, starting the first Junior Interact Club in the USA as well as organizing the Dictionary Project for the past 12-13 years, which gives a new dictionary to every 3rd grader in West Orange every year. Rotary International's motto is "Service Above Self"

Christos K. Alevras, the club's new President-Elect, received his first Paul Harris Fellow from the club. Paul Harris founded Rotary in 1905 in Chicago. Since then, Rotary has grown to over 120 countries and 32,500 Rotary Clubs all over the world. Rotary is the largest service club in the world. When a club donates $1000 to the Rotary Fondation, they can name it in honor of one of their members who has shown exemplary service to Rotary.
Dr. Dorie Cappiello, past president 2006-2007, received her third Paul Harris Fellow from the club.
