UPDATE: N.J. Child, Adult Shot And Killed Near Elementary School: Prosecutor

The deceased child was two-years-old, a report says.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A child and a male adult died in a multiple-shooting in Orange on Thursday afternoon, reports say.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that a shooting claimed the life of a child and a man believed to be in his 20s around 3:30 p.m. near Cleveland Street Elementary School.

Authorities didn't release the identity of the child, who may have been two-years-old, CBS New York reported.

Several police and emergency vehicles were on the scene Thursday; officers from departments including East Orange, Montclair and Glen Ridge lent mutual aid during the incident, RLS Media stated.

Shortly afterwards about a mile from the scene, emergency responders reportedly doused a car that had been set on fire and matched the description of one that had allegedly been seen in the area, but authorities have not linked the vehicle to the shooting, NBC Philadelphia stated.
