WEST ORANGE, NJ — An 11-year-old pedestrian in West Orange was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk last week, but wasn’t injured, authorities say.
The incident took place Friday at the intersection of Ridgeview Avenue and South Valley Road, near Meeker Street.
A preliminary report indicated that a vehicle had stopped for pedestrians at the intersection when it was hit from behind by another car, pushing it forward – where it lightly “tapped” the 11-year-old, police said.

Lauren Noonan, a West Orange resident, told Patch that she saw the incident take place, and the juvenile stopped to press the “walk” button before crossing the street.
Noonan described the incident as “scary” – adding that other drivers and people at the scene were yelling at everyone to “get out of the way” within seconds.
“Like that’s crazy … can’t they see an accident had just occurred?” Noonan said.
