Car Stolen In West Orange Used To Steal Vehicle In Nearby Town: Police
A driver making Amazon deliveries in Essex County told police that someone stole his car – and left another vehicle in its place.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A car stolen in West Orange was recently recovered in Montclair after it was used in another vehicle theft in that township, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the Montclair Police Department, a driver making Amazon deliveries in his 2017 Audi Q5 left the vehicle running on Upper Mountain Avenue on June 26. When he returned from a delivery, he saw someone driving the car away from the scene – leaving a 2021 Toyota Rav4 in its place.
The victim entered the Rav4 and attempted to catch up to his Audi, but he quickly lost sight of it, police said.

The Toyota Rav4 was later determined to have been stolen from West Orange, police said.
