Car Wash Hosts Fundraiser for Murder Victim's Family
The West Orange Car Wash will donate $5 for every car washed on Saturday to the family of the man that was shot and killed outside Misty's Bar last week.
Local business owner Scott Carpel is hosting a fundraiser this weekend to help support the family of the man shot and killed at a township bar last week.
Carpel, owner of the West Orange Car Wash, located at 87 Main St., said Friday he is raising money for the family of Jacques Nelson, who was .
“I know a lot of guys that live in West Orange, and (the murder) hit home to me because it was so close to my business,” said Carpel. “ ... I feel more people should get involved when something happens.”

Carpel said he would donate $5 for everyone who gets a car wash on Saturday. The car wash will be open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
In addition, Carpel said he set up a donation box at the car wash recently, which many people have been making contributions.

Carpel, who did not know Nelson, said he wanted to raise more awareness about the murder, especially because he noticed a lot of people don't know about it.
“We can’t just turn our backs because it didn’t happen to me,” said Carpel.
Nelson, 32, of Orange, was employed as a bouncer at the bar when he was shot trying to break up a fight between patrons around 2 a.m. on Aug. 6.
No arrests have been made in the case. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office last week.
Carpel hopes to host another fundraiser and potentially get more businesses on Main Street involved, he said.
