Creative Arts Come Alive in Church Services

Pleasantdale Presbyterian Church

Pleasantdale Presbyterian Church is proud to be hosting two wonderful events this weekend and next.
 
This Sunday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m., the church will hold a Jazz Vespers Service. This alternative format service blends the age-old tradition of evening prayer with the unique musical language of jazz. It will feature a special selection of blues music led by Dave Rimelis. It will feature trombonist Bob Ferrel and others. The service will also include special readings, poetry, prayers and communion. The service honors the diversity of the West Orange community and the contribution of the creative arts to the life of the community. It celebrates inclusivity and creativity and is open to all. A free-will offering will be collected.
 
Next weekend, on Friday and Saturday March 9 and 10, the church will host New Jersey's newest community theatre company, Pleasant Valley Productions, in their inaugural production of Songs for a New World. The show will be presented at 8 p.m. on both evenings. A reception will be held for audience and company members following both performances.

Songs for a New World features a compelling score of pop, jazz, gospel, and classical music composed by Jason Robert Brown. It offers an emotional journey through sudden, devastating life experiences and how one learns to triumph and survive in a new world.

Pleasant Valley Productions was formed by Camille DiLorenzo, Ilene Greenbaum, and Howie Tilkin, who together have created award-winning theatrical productions for the past 10 years. 

Based in West Orange, the non-profit theatre company plans to enrich the community with professional-quality theatre. The company’s goal is to present a broad range of productions appealing to all audiences.

A life-long West Orange resident, DiLorenzo has been a director, producer, stage manager, performer, and arts educator for 25 years. Greenbaum has worked as a music director, conductor and arts educator for many community and school theatre companies in New Jersey and New York for 35 years. Tilkin, a recent NYU graduate, is a Broadway and Off-Broadway stage manager and production assistant.

United Presbyterian Church

On Saturday, March 10 we will be having our Annual Irish Dinner at the United Presbyterian Church.  We will be serving corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, applesauce and dessert. Macaroni and cheese will be available for vegetarians and children. Then we will have a sing-along of Irish favorites!
